Book a Test

Home STD testing in Dubai: how it actually works

A nurse comes to you, takes the sample, and it goes to the same accredited laboratory as a walk-in. It is not a kit posted to your door, and the distinction matters.

What home collection is, and is not

There are two different things sold as “home testing”, and they are not comparable.

The first is a self-collection kit posted to you: you take your own sample, package it, and send it back. Convenient, but the quality of the sample depends entirely on you, and the turnaround includes however long the post takes in both directions.

The second — what we arrange — is a qualified nurse visiting you. The sample is taken properly, labelled and transported directly to the laboratory. The result is identical to walking into the lab yourself, because it is the same laboratory running the same assay on a sample collected the same way.

How the appointment works

  1. Book online and choose a date and time. You pay when you book, so there is nothing to settle on the day.
  2. A nurse comes to you, anywhere in Dubai, at the slot you chose.
  3. The sample is taken — urine, blood, or both, depending on the screen. It takes a few minutes.
  4. The laboratory processes it and issues your result directly to you, usually within 24 hours.

You do not need a referral, and nothing about the visit identifies what it is for.

What it costs

Home collection is included at no extra cost on every screen from AED 449 upwards. There is one exception: on the AED 99 Fio HIV Screen, home collection is AED 100, because sending a nurse costs more than the test itself.

Preparing for the visit

There is very little to do. No fasting is required for any of these tests — eat and drink normally.

If your screen includes a urine sampleTry not to urinate for about two hours before the appointment. A dilute sample is the most common reason a test has to be repeated.

Staying hydrated makes a blood draw quicker and more comfortable, which is the only other thing worth knowing.

Why people choose it

Almost always for one reason: nobody sees you. No waiting room shared with other patients, no reception desk, no explaining why you are there, and no chance of being recognised somewhere you would rather not be recognised.

The confidentiality continues after the visit. Nothing we send names the test — not the payment description on your bank statement, which shows a neutral company name, not the confirmation email’s subject line, not the booking reference, not any reminder. Results go from the laboratory directly to you; Fio never receives, stores or has access to them. How confidentiality works, in full.

Choosing a screen

The choice is not really about home versus lab — that part is convenience. It is about which panel answers your question. Our guide covers what panel sizes actually mean and where the larger ones stop being worth the money, and how long to wait after exposure, which matters more than panel size.
