Syphilis testing in Dubai
Syphilis is tested with a small blood sample. Fio Health arranges it at a partner laboratory or with a nurse at your home, hotel or office: the Fio Blood Screen covers syphilis together with HIV and hepatitis B and C for AED 649, home collection included, and syphilis is also part of the Complete and Premium screens. Most results come directly to you within 24 hours.
Syphilis often causes no symptoms that people notice, so a blood test after exposure is the only reliable way to know.
How is syphilis tested?
With a blood test that looks for the antibodies your body makes against the syphilis bacterium, Treponema pallidum. Fio's screens use the TPHA test. It takes one small blood sample, drawn at the partner laboratory or by a nurse who comes to you, and the visit takes a few minutes. There is no swab and no examination.
You can test in two ways. Visit the partner laboratory, which is open 24 hours, or book a nurse to come to your home, hotel or office in Dubai. How the nurse visit works is covered in our guide to home testing.
When should you test for syphilis after exposure?
Blood tests for syphilis can be taken from 30 days after exposure. Published guidance from the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the UK NHS puts the detection window at about 3 to 6 weeks, and occasionally up to 90 days, which is why a repeat test at 90 days is sometimes advised after a negative.
Enter your date in the window-period calculator to see your own dates for syphilis and every other test.
Can you have syphilis without symptoms?
Yes. Public-health guidance describes the first sign as usually a single sore where the infection entered the body. It is often painless and can be hidden, so many people never notice it, and it heals on its own within a few weeks. A later stage can bring a rash or flu-like symptoms, which also fade. After that, the infection can stay in the body for years with no symptoms at all.
That is why testing is prompted by exposure, such as a new partner, sex without a condom, or a partner who has tested positive, rather than by how you feel.
If you have a sore, a rash or any other symptom now, see a doctor rather than booking a screen. Sores need to be examined, and a test on its own does not treat anything. Our guide to clinic, laboratory or home testing covers when a clinic is the better choice.
Which test includes syphilis?
Four of Fio's screens include syphilis. Choose by what else you want answered in the same visit.
| Screen | What it covers | Sample | Price |
|---|---|---|---|
| Fio Blood Screen (4) | Syphilis, HIV, hepatitis B and C | Blood | AED 649 |
| Fio Complete Screen (20) | The Blood Screen plus the common urine infections, such as chlamydia and gonorrhoea | Urine + blood | AED 999 |
| Fio Premium Screen (32) | The widest panel offered | Urine + blood | AED 1,449 |
| Fio Advanced Screen (14) | Urine only; detects the syphilis bacterium by PCR when it is present in the sample | Urine | AED 749 |
The blood test is the standard way to screen for syphilis, so if syphilis is your main concern, choose a screen with a blood sample. For most people after a new partner, the Complete Screen answers the whole question in one visit. Every pathogen in every screen is listed on our tests page, and the costs are compared in our price guide.

Choose a screen, pick a nurse visit or the lab, and pay online. Results come to you directly from the laboratory.
What does a syphilis result mean?
A negative result after the window period means syphilis antibodies were not found. If you tested early, the calculator shows when a repeat test would confirm it.
Syphilis is a bacterial infection, and public-health bodies describe it as treatable with antibiotics. If a result is positive, the laboratory's own clinician contacts you privately about the next steps. Fio never sees your result.
One thing worth knowing: antibody tests such as TPHA usually stay positive for life, even after successful treatment. If you have had syphilis before, a doctor is the right person to interpret a new result.
How private is it?
Your results go from the laboratory directly to you. Fio never receives or stores them. Your card statement shows a neutral company name, never the test, and a nurse visit looks like any other delivery or appointment. If you and a partner both want testing, you can book together: one visit, 10% off both tests, and each person's results go only to their own email. More on this in our privacy section.
