Trichomonas testing in Dubai

Trichomonas (trichomoniasis) is tested with a urine sample, by PCR. Fio Health includes it in every urine screen, from the Fio Essential Screen at AED 449, which tests for 7 common infections with home collection included. You can test at a partner laboratory or with a nurse at your home, hotel or office, and most results come directly to you within 24 hours.

Most people with trichomonas have no symptoms, so a test after exposure is the only reliable way to know.

How is trichomonas tested?

With a urine sample, analysed by PCR, which detects the genetic material of the parasite that causes it, Trichomonas vaginalis. You provide the sample yourself in private. There is no swab, no examination and no blood draw for this part of the test.

The one piece of preparation: try not to urinate for at least one hour before the sample. A dilute sample is the most common reason a test has to be repeated. Women can still give a urine sample during a period.

You can test in two ways. Visit the partner laboratory, which is open 24 hours, or book a nurse to come to your home, hotel or office in Dubai. How the nurse visit works is covered in our guide to home testing.

How much does a trichomonas test cost in Dubai?

Trichomonas is tested as part of a urine panel rather than on its own, because the same sample answers several questions at once. The smallest screen that includes it is the Fio Essential Screen.

ScreenWhat it coversSamplePrice
Fio Essential Screen (7)Trichomonas, chlamydia, gonorrhoea, Mycoplasma genitalium and three moreUrineAED 449
Fio Advanced Screen (14)The Essential Screen plus herpes, syphilis by PCR and moreUrineAED 749

Home collection is included at no extra cost on all of these, and the price shown is the price you pay. Every pathogen in every screen is listed on our tests page, and the costs are compared in our price guide.

When should you test after exposure?

Urine tests, including trichomonas, can be taken from 7 days after exposure. Published guidance from the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the UK NHS puts the detection window at about 1 to 4 weeks, so a negative result is reliable from around 4 weeks after exposure.

Choose a screen, pick a nurse visit or the lab, and pay online. Results come to you directly from the laboratory.

Can you have trichomonas without symptoms?

Yes, and most people do. Public-health guidance describes trichomonas as frequently symptomless, particularly in men. Where symptoms do appear, they are easy to put down to something else, and they can overlap with other common conditions.

That is why testing is prompted by exposure, such as a new partner, sex without a condom, or a partner who has tested positive, rather than by how you feel. Because it passes easily between partners, public-health guidance also recommends that partners are tested. If you and a partner both want testing, you can book together: one visit, 10% off both tests, and separate results.

If you have symptoms now, see a doctor rather than booking a screen. A test tells you what is there; it doesn't treat it. Our page on STD symptoms explains why symptoms are a poor guide either way.

What does a trichomonas result mean?

A negative result after the window period means the parasite was not found in your sample. If you tested early, the calculator shows when a repeat test would confirm it.

Public-health bodies describe trichomonas as treatable with medication. If a result is positive, the laboratory's own clinician contacts you privately about the next steps, including any advice on retesting after treatment. Fio never sees your result.

How private is it?

Your results go from the laboratory directly to you. Fio never receives or stores them. Your card statement shows a neutral company name, never the test, and a nurse visit looks like any other delivery or appointment. More on this in our privacy section.
